Spraying
Spraying
Spraying is the most effective treatment option for protecting your trees against MPB.  When administered correctly, spraying can be over 95% effective.  It is critical for the health of your trees and the surrounding environments that spraying be administered correctly by a certified pesticide applicator.  Spraying is a preventive tactic against MPB.  Only un-infested, healthy trees should be selected for spraying.  There is no available treatment once a tree has been fatally infested with MPB.
Proper Application
Pesticides should be applied entirely around the bole of the tree to a height where the tree’s diameter is less than 5 inches.  Trees should be sprayed between mid April and the end of June.  Proper spraying equipment should be able to deliver the pesticide/water combination to a height of at least 60 feet.  Our sprayers are capable of reaching 90 feet effectively, ensuring your trees are properly protected.  Preventive spraying should be completed on a yearly basis each spring until the threat of MPB is no longer present.

Pesticide Information/Effectiveness

There are many different pesticides available for treatment against MPB.  The best pesticide combination will remain potent against beetles for the duration of the beetle flight while causing as little harm to the environment as possible.

We use a combination of a pyrethrum based pesticide along with a silicone based surfactant.  This combination of pesticide and surfactant has proven very successful against MPB with very limited negative effects on the surrounding environment.

Pyrethrum based insecticides are highly toxic to both freshwater and estuarine aquatic organisms.  It is for this reason that we will not spray trees within 50 feet of any open waterways.  We care about your trees and also the surrounding environment, and will not sacrifice aquatic health for a tree’s safety against MPB.

Pricing

Pricing for preventive spraying is based on the number and species of trees to be treated.  It is for this reason that we encourage group participation by offering group discounts.  Group participation also improves everyone’s view in communities where views are shared among many different individuals.
